Indian Assistance of NRs. 20.00 million for the construction of a school building in Makwanpur District

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 12 December 2013 between the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, District Development Committee, Makwanpur and Shree Mahalaxmi Secondary School for providing Indian grant assistance of NRs. 1,99,79,594/- for the construction of a two - storied school building and supply of furniture under Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme. 

 

 Shree Mahalaxmi Secondary School, Bhimphedi was established in 1959 as a Primary School and subsequently upgraded to Secondary level in 2008, Shree Mahalaxmi Secondary School is situated at Bhimphedi VDC in Makwanpur District. Its existing infrastructure is dilapidated and inadequate to meet the growing requirements of the students as well as faculty members. The new building, being constructed with Indian grant assistance, will help in creation of better facilities for around 293 students (Boys – 127, Girls – 166) and would create an improved environment for learning and contribute to the development of education in the district. 

 

 The project will be implemented by the District Development Committee, Makwanpur in accordance with the existing norms and regulations of the Government of Nepal. They will also be responsible for ensuring the quality of construction of the project and its timely completion. The MoU stipulates the constitution of an Oversight Committee, comprising representatives of the DDC/DEO and other stakeholders with a view to ensuring the implementation of the project in a time bound manner. 

 

 In addition to this project, three projects in Makwanpur District have already been completed with Indian assistance of NRs. 39.8 million, while the work is ongoing for the construction of school building for Shree Janakalyan Higher Secondary School, Daman VDC at a cost of NRs. 42.21 million.   India has also provided five ambulances and four school buses in the District. 

 

 On Wednesday, 26th February, 2014, Smt. Anju Ranjan, Consul General of India, Birgunj handed over a Nepal SBI Bank Draft No. 110567 for NRs. 19,97,959/- (10% of cost of project) in favour of District Development Committee, Makwanpur to Shri Gokarma Prasad Sharma, Local Development Officer, DDC during a function organized at Shree Mahalaxmi Secondary School, Bhimphedi, Suping VDC, Makwanpur.
