In keeping with the tradition to underline the Indo-Nepal Economic cooperation on the occasion of India 's national days, Government of India has donated five ambulances within the 8 Districts under the jurisdiction of the Consulate at Birgunj. While the Consulate General of India, Birgunj would hand over three ambulances, the fourth ambulance will be handed over by the Ambassador in Kathmandu . The beneficiaries, as always, have been drawn from a huge list of applications and the facility is extended to the most needy, considering the development of the area from where requests have been received and the distance that residents have to travel to access medical facilities.
The recipients of Ambulances on the occasion of our Republic Day 2013 are as follows:
· Health Post, Dhanakauli (Purbawari), Sarlahi
· Bhangaha Sub-Health Post, Mahottari
· Chandranigahpur Hospital, Rautahat
· Shree Chitwan Bhutpurwa Sainik Kalyankari Club, Dibyanagar, Chitwan (To be gifted by the Ambassador at Kathmandu)
Since 1994 Government of India has gifted 362 ambulances to various organizations across 70 districts in Nepal . This has helped in bringing healthcare services to the doorsteps of thousands of people who do not have access to healthcare services/health centres. Based on the feedback available with the Embassy, over 50,000 patients have been served by these ambulances gifted by Government of India. Government of India has also so far gifted 70 buses to various educational and welfare institutions across 24 districts in Nepal, giving easier access to schools for hundreds of students, as well as helping a number of welfare organizations in providing services to disadvantaged groups.
Gifting of these ambulances and buses is a part of the larger India-Nepal economic cooperation programme that the Government of India has with Nepal with an overall outlay of over NRs. 6500 crores. Under the programme, there are 460 large and small projects in the sectors of health, education and infrastructure development which reflect the commitment of the Government and the people of India to work with the people of Nepal in their stride towards peace and development. These projects stand as a symbol of deep friendship and characterizes the relationship between the two countries.
