Ambassador Jayant Prasad lays the foundation stones of two roads in Sarlahi District being built under India's economic assistance programme in Nepal

During his visit to Sarlahi District, Ambassador Jayant Prasad laid the foundation stones of the following two roads at a                . 108: Barhathwa(Nayaroad)-Madhubani(40.3 km)

Speaking on this occasion, Ambassador Prasad expressed satisfaction at the progressive execution of the project.  He also renewed India’s commitment to assist Nepal in the development of its infrastructure, which would lead to greater economic development in the area.  

These roads are a part of the 19 roads being built by Government of India at the request of the Government of Nepal under Phase I of the ongoing Terai Roads Project.  The construction of these roads would further strengthen the development of infrastructure in Nepal which would facilitate better connectivity within Nepal and between India and Nepal.

By way of background, Government of India is assisting in the construction of 1400 kms of Roads in the Terai region of Nepal . The project is being implemented in two phases. Phase-I of the project covers the development of 19 link/postal roads equaling 605 kms in the Terai area of Nepal . The roads were selected by the Government of Nepal and are presently under various stages of construction. Being built at a cost of NRs. 1100, these roads would facilitate easier movement of goods and services in the country benefiting nearly 88 lakh people in the area. This would significantly accelerate the economic development of Nepal . Phase-I will be followed by Phase-II and will cover about 900 kms of roads.
