Indian Assistance of NRs. 3.00 crores for Janaki Mandir

           During his visit to Dhanusha District on 20th December 2011, Ambassador Jayant Prasad inaugurated the newly constructed Cultural Museum at Janaki Mandir Complex, Janakpurdham in Dhanusha District under Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme. The project has been implemented by the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Division Office, Dhanusha.

          Janakpurdham is one of the most important religious and touristic places of Nepal and the Janaki Temple prominently figures among its most revered attractions. The Cultural Museum established with the India’s assistance of NRs. 3.00 crores at the temple complex will effectively disseminate information among visitors and pilgrims about the history of Janakpurdham and the Mithila Culture. The Museum has a rich collection of antiques, paintings, arts, handicrafts etc. in different galleries, apart from a library.

          In addition to this Cultural Museum, five projects in Dhanusha District have already been completed with India’s assistance of NRs. 10.67 crores, while work is ongoing for eleven projects at a cost of NRs. 37.56 crores including school buildings, nursing campus, roads & bridges, electrification of villages and installation of shallow tube wells. India has also gifted ten ambulances and one school bus for use in Dhanusha District.

          In his address, Ambassador Prasad expressed the hope that establishment of Museum will contribute to further strengthening the rich cultural heritage of Janakpurdham and improving its civic infrastructure for the benefit of the visitors and pilgrims. He stressed that various projects being implemented under the Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme will help the people of Nepal in a significant manner towards the economic development of the country.

          Recognizing the importance of accelerating growth in Nepal, India remains committed to rendering all possible assistance in that direction. The India-Nepal Economic Programme has an outlay of over NRs. 6,000 crores with more than 400 large and small development projects completed or currently being implemented in almost all the districts of Nepal. These development projects mainly in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development have been undertaken in response to local needs, and in partnership with the Government of Nepal.
