At a well- attended function, Ambassador Prasad inaugurated the newly constructed school and hostel buildings for Shree KSHSB Higher Secondary School . Established in 1952 as a Primary School and subsequently upgraded as Higher Secondary School in 1999, it is located at Village Khajuri-Mahuwa in Dhanusha District. The new buildings constructed with India ’s grant assistance of NRs. 2.88 crores will provide better facilities to over 2300 students, of whom half are girls. Their stay and study at the new facility will help them to secure improved results in their examination and upgrade their overall academic capacity. The Ambassador later inaugurated an eye camp organized by Nepal-Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) in the school premises for carrying out eye tests for the students of the school and neighbouring schools. Spectacles/vision devices will be distributed free of cost to children needing them. This is part of the assistance being provided by India to NNJS for eye care in Nepal . India has been providing assistance to NNJS for its Eye Care Programme in Nepal as part of India-Nepal Cooperation Programme since 2001. Under the programme, over 90,000 people have so far been cured of cataract and trachoma and optical devices/spectacles have been distributed to over 27,000 school going children all over Nepal . India is going to provide financial assistance of NRs. 4.60 crores to NNJS for the Eye Care Programme during 2011-2012.
An another well-attended function, Ambassador Prasad laid the foundation stone for the construction of a bridge over Jamuni River . During the monsoon season, 8 VDCs (Jhoji-Kataiya, Dhnauji, Iterwa, Bhadariya, Lakhauri, Kharihani, Tarahi and Gordaha) remain cut off from the rest of the district due to flooding in the river. The proposed bridge over the Jamuni River with India ’s assistance of NRs. 2.68 crores will directly benefit over 70,000 people of 8 VDCs by providing perennial connectivity with the District. In addition to these two projects, six projects in Dhanusha District have already been completed with India ’s assistance of NRs. 13.67 crores, while work is ongoing for nine projects at a cost of NRs. 32.01 crores including school buildings, nursing campus, roads & bridges, electrification of villages and installation of shallow tube wells. India has also gifted ten ambulances and one school bus for the benefit of people of Dhanusha District and adjoining areas.

He expressed the hope that the various development projects being implemented under the programme will help the people of Nepal in their development. Recognizing the importance of accelerating developmental activities in Nepal, India remains committed to rendering all possible assistance in that direction. Nepal – India Economic Cooperation Programme has an outlay of over NRs. 6,000 crores with more than 400 large and small development projects completed or currently being implemented in almost all districts of Nepal in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development.
