Joint Celebration of Maulana Azad Day & ITEC Day

  Hon’ble Mr. Dinanath Sharma, Minister of Education, Government of Nepal graced the occasion as Chief Guest.  Students of Indian Culture Centre gave an endearing performance on the occasion.The event marked the 123rd Birth Anniversary of the first Education Minister of India and founder of Indian Council of Cultural Relations Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.  As India’s Education Minister, Maulana Azad oversaw the establishment of the Indian Institutes of Technology and the foundation of the University Grants Commission, an important institution to supervise and advance the higher education in the nation.  These Universities and Institutes of higher education and research have made significant contribution to transmission of knowledge in all encompassing fields ranging from Science, Technology, Traditional Arts, Humanities, etc. 

Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme popularly known as ‘ITEC’ was launched in 1964 as a bilateral programme of assistance of the Government of India.   

  Over the years, the number of seats allocated to Nepal under ITEC Programme has increased from 12 in 2000 to 110 in 2011.  & finance etc. From the year 200 till date, more than 500 participants from Nepal have benefitted from attending short-term professional course in India.   It is response –oriented and it addresses that needs of developing countries.  Indian Technical Economic Cooperation has five components viz (1) Training in India of nominees of ITEC partner countries (2) Projects and project related activities such as feasibility studies and consultancy service (3) Deputation of Indian experts abroad (4) Study Tours (5) Aid for Disaster Relief (ADR) India spends more than 500 million annually on ITEC activities.     billion worth of technical assistance to developing countries including neighbouring countries.  Government of India is extending more than 1800 scholarships annually to Nepalese students in a wide spectrum of course inclusive of medical, agriculture, sciences, law, arts, vetenary sciences, pharmacology, computer sciences etc. at various levels of Under Graduate, Post Graduate, Fellowships etc.
