India's assistance of NRs. 545.35 million for embankment construction along Lalbakeya, Bagmati, Kamla rivers in Nepal

Ambassador of India to Nepal H.E. Mr. Rakesh Sood handed over a cheque of NRs. 54.54 crores to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Commerce & Supplies, Energy and Irrigation Hon'ble Mr. Bharat Mohan Adhikari as India’s contribution towards construction of embankments along Lalbakeya, Bagmati and Kamla rivers in Nepal which is being undertaken in accordance with the decisions made by the India-Nepal Joint Committee on Inundation and Flood Management.

India has been providing assistance to Nepal for strengthening and extension of embankments along Lalbakeya, Bagmati and Kamla rivers.  With the present assistance, the total grant assistance already disbursed for embankment construction along these rivers, stands at NRs. 202.33 crores, of which NRs. 16.55 crores was released in 2008, NRs. 53.15 crores in 2009, and NRs.59.98 crores in 2010. Separately India has committed grant assistance of NRs.22.6 crores for flood protection works along Gagan, Trijuga, Lakhandei, Sunsari, Kankai and Kaligandaki rivers in Nepal. The flood protection works along Trijuga, Kankai and Lakhandei rivers have been already completed.
India remains committed to continue working closely with Nepal for further development of cooperation in the filed of Water Resources so that these contribute to development and prosperity of the two close and friendly neighbouring countries.
