Laying of foundation stone of Integrated Check Post (ICP) and Birgunj-Thori road byMinister of External Affairs on April 22, 2011

On 22 April 2011, H.E. Shri S. M. Krishna, Minister of External Affairs of India laid the foundation stone for the Integrated Check Post (ICP) and Birgunj-Thori road being built with GOI assistance. The program was attended by H.E. Shri Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Minister for Physical Planning and Works, distinguished CA members and other senior officials of Govt. of Nepal. The NRs 137 Crores ICP at Birgunj would be the counterpart of a similar ICP being built at Raxaul, the foundation stone for which was laid by Minister for Home Affairs of India Mr. P. Chidambaram on 24 April 2010. The 53 Km long Birgunj-Thori road is one of the 19 roads being built under Phase I of the Terai Road project that includes 19 roads with a total length of 605 kms being built with GOI assistance of NRs 1100 crores. Both these projects would be extremely important for enhancing Nepal's connectivity with India and providing physical infrastructure to the people of Nepal.
These projects are a part of the India-Nepal Cooperation Programme which has an imprint in all districts of Nepal with over 400 projects with a total outlay of NRs.5800 Crores in the sector of education, health, agriculture, roads and bridges and other such infrastructure.
