Indian Assistance of NRs. 8.02 crores

Seven separate Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) were signed on July 7, 2010 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with concerned executing agency of Government of Nepal and the beneficiary organizations for providing GOI grant assistance of NRs. 8.02 crores.
1.    NRs. 3.57 crores to Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) for holding eye camps in Nepal   - GOI will provide grant assistance of NRs. 3.57 crores to NNJS to cover the cost of conducting 15,000 cataract eye surgeries and 1,000 Trachomatous Trichiasis (TT) during the year 2010-2011 through eye hospitals and eye-care centres of NNJS in various Districts of Nepal as a ‘National Eye Sight Programme'.  Blindness due to cataract and trachoma is a major health problem in Nepal, causing about 8.25 lakhs people to suffer from some degree of visual impairment. Since 2001, Govt. of India has been provided assistance to NNJS for eye care programme in Nepal through country-wide free of cost eye-camps organized as part of the India –Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme. Under the programme over 75,000 people have so far been cured of cataract and trachoma since 2001.
2.    NRs. 4.45 crores for upgradation of six school building in District Dhanusha :-  Six separate Memorandum of Understanding were signed with Department of Urban Development & Building Construction, Division Office, Dhanusha and concerned beneficiary organisations for upgradation of infrastructure for six Rastriya Primary schools, situated at (a) Nagarain-Jatahi (b) Nagarain-Raghopur (c) Ghorghas-Ganguli Pachhawari (d) Ghorghas-Ganguli Daxinbari (e) Fulgama - Khadka and (f) Lagama-Pachhawari
These schools are among important centres of education in their areas and service the educational needs of over 2100 students, almost half of which are girls. The schools are presently functioning in old buildings and need upgradation. The new infrastructure being created with the GOI assistance will help in creating the requisite infrastructure for these schools and enable them to upgrade their capacity in keeping with their educational standards and increasing number of students.
India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme has an outlay over NRs 5700 crores with more than 370 large and small projects completed or currently being implemented in all districts of Nepal in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development. These projects reflect the commitment of the Government and the people of India to work together with the people of Nepal in their stride towards peace and development. These development projects have been undertaken in response to local needs and in partnership with the Government of Nepal and these infrastructures stand as a symbol of the deep friendship that characterizes the relationship between India and Nepal. Government of India looks forward to many more such initiatives in association with the Government and people of Nepal.
